This is not a concept video. 1X is taking pre-orders on NEO, a household humanoid, with first units shipping to US homes in 2026. You can buy it outright for $20,000 or rent it for $499 a month. It weighs 66 pounds, runs quieter than a refrigerator, and can lift more than 150. It has dexterous hands and a soft body designed, in the company's own framing, to reduce the "creepy" factor of a machine sharing your house.

The Pitch Is Aimed at the Hardest Choice

The marketing is smart, because it targets something true. Millions of families are caught between aging parents who want to stay in their own homes and a care system that is expensive, short-staffed, and hard to trust. Into that gap walks a robot that promises fall detection and emergency alerts, medication reminders it can physically help with, and a presence in the house when no human can be there.

We are not going to pretend those needs are fake or that wanting help is a moral failure. They are real, and the exhaustion behind them is real. This movement is anti-replacement, not anti-technology. A device that calls for help when an elderly person falls is a good thing. The fight isn't with the smoke detector.
